The journalism classes produce the school newspapers. The journalism classes are composed of novice journalists in grades 9-12, as well as second- and third-year journalism students.

The main goal of the journalism class is to learn about journalism by producing a newspaper. Journalism students are required to write stories for each of the 10-15 issues, paste up pages, sell advertisements, take photographs, and participate in all other aspects of newspaper production. The class also participates in some traditional instruction in newspaper writing and publication and studies the newspaper as a source of influence in society.

Journalism is considered both a class and an activity. Newspaper production requires time. Therefore, after school work is inevitable; each student on the staff is expected to remain after school during production weeks. Stories and beat reports are done outside of class time.
