1. Listen up CHARGERS….

2. It’s POPCORN FRIDAY!!!!!!  Bring $1.00 to the concession stand for lunch for some warm, delicious popcorn!

3. Attention ALL NAHS Students –
Plan on a brief but important meeting Wednesday, February 15 before school, after both 6th and 7th hours. We want to share an opportunity with you and discuss whether we take our annual Flint Field Trip.

1. Testing is on the 24th of February during 5th and 6th hours.  Start studying NOW by reviewing the old tests on moodle.
2. Mrs. DeBoer has your scores from districts and she will give them to you when you have your permission slip and money handed in.

5. Space: The final frontier – At this FGL we will boldly go where no FGLer has gone before. It will be a dangerous mission involving time travel and a very troubled Romulan; we might even lose some red shirts in the process. That’s right! This week we’ll be watching the 2009 Star Trek movie AND the Original Series! So bring your tribbles and your phasers and come to room 330 after 7th hour today!

6. The Marine Corp Recruiter will be here on Thursday, February 16th during third hour.  The signup sheet is in the Counseling Center.

7. YIG members:  please note that your final payment is due on February 24th.  It is just $40.  Make your checks out to Dow High and drop them at the Counseling Office.

8. Attention students:  The first 50 students between 8:00 – noon today wearing their green and/or gold will receive a free ticket to tonight’s game.  Be sure to listen and watch the new TV in the Spirit Central area for more details.  You also have a chance to win a ticket for Monday nights game.

2. The 9th Grade Boys Basketball team remained undefeated Tuesday night by beating Bay City Central by the score of 50 to 37.  The teams’ next game is at Heritage High School Friday at 4 PM.

3. Tomorrow is Popcorn Friday so bring $1.00 and get your delicious bag of popcorn at both lunch hours!!!!

4. Hey French Clubbers! Don’t forget that this week we do not have a meeting due to the French Food night scheduled on Friday! For more information on the event, please check out the Facebook page! With delicious crepes, soup, and good french bread, why wouldn’t you go to the food night? Can’t wait to see everyone there!

5. The boys’ varsity basketball team defeated Bay City Central last night by a score of 71 to 48.
The Chargers travel to Saginaw Heritage for a game on Friday.

6. The Charger hockey team battled to the very end, but gave up the game winner with just over 2 minutes left in the game to cross-town rival Midland High.  The Chargers go on the road Saturday and play Saginaw Nouvel at 7 p.m.

1. Attention Students, the media center will be closed today for the MME prep session.  Students who need a quiet place to study may go to room 320.  Computers will not be available.

2. JUNIORS, LISTEN UP!   Today is the second MME/ACT prep session in the media center, after both 6th and 7th hours.  We will look at the English and Writing portions of the ACT, so please try to come.  If you can’t make it, materials will be available for pick up in the main office afterword.

3. The JV girls basketball team remained undefeated with a 38-17 win at Flint Powers Tuesday night. The Charters host Saginaw Heritage Friday night.

9. Tuesday night the boy’s JV basketball team lost to Bay City Central 68-64.   The team is now 9-6 and travels to Saginaw Heritage Friday night to take on the Hawks.  Practice tonight is 5:30 – 7:30.

10. Last night the competitive cheer teams had a strong night at Meridian. The JV team finished their competitive schedule with their best performances of the season! Their powerful vocals in round 1, synchronized skills in round 2, and strong stunt cheer wowed the crowd! Great job, ladies! The varsity team won the division 1 and 2 competition beating both Midland and Bay City Western. Their record now stands at 24-7. The varsity team competes for the League championship next Wednesday at Saginaw Heritage. Good luck and go Chargers!!

11. Hey Alpine Club! The trip to Shanty Creek is THIS SATURDAY so it’s very important that you are at the meeting on Thursday to sort through some last minute details. Also, everyone who is signed up for the trip, please make sure that you have given Mrs. Meitler your additional five dollars for the lift ticket. We will also be trying on fleeces tomorrow, so everyone needs to be there! See you after 6th or 7th hours tomorrow in room 113.

H. H. Dow High School – February 6, 2012

1. The girls JV basketball team beat Tawas 63-11 Friday night, extending their undefeated season to 15 consecutive wins. The Chargers play at Flint Powers Tuesday night.

2. On Friday night, the Charger hockey team defeated Dewitt-St. Johns; 4-2.
On Saturday, the Chargers lost by a score of 8-3 to Muskegon Mona Shores.
The Chargers’ next hockey game is this Wednesday against Midland High.

3. Congratulations to the Charger Wrestling team for a 6th place finish in the valley tournament. Good luck wrestlers at team districts on Thursday.

4. Attention seniors:
FAFSA on the Web Worksheets are available in the Counseling Center.  These provide a preview of the questions that you may be asked while completing the FAFSA online.  This worksheet is optional.   Remember the FAFSA deadline is March 1st so stop by and pick up a worksheet soon!

5. The Dow Boys Swim Team swam hard and won their 10th straight Tri-Cities championship on Saturday at the Bay City Western pool.  They placed first out of 7 teams with 362 points, beating second place Saginaw Heritage by 29 points.  They also set two new Tri-Cities meet records.  They compete next Saturday at the MISCA meet at Eastern Michigan University and at home against Midland High on February 13.

H. H. Dow High School – February 3, 2012

1. Last night the Dow Cheer teams hosted the Dow Classic Invitational. The JV ladies did a great job, placing 4th place and beating Mt. Pleasant, Midland, and Heritage! Congratulations, JV!

2. The varsity team started strong in round 1 – edging Mt. Pleasant for a first place finish. They increased their lead in round 2 with some beautiful standing tucks and their lead extended to 4 points. Then the Chargers came on strong in their stunt cheer soundly defeating the Oilers by over 10 points! For the first time in Dow Competitive Cheer history, they beat Mt. Pleasant – not just overall, but in every single cheer!!! Well done! Well done! Woot Woot Woot! In addition to toppling Mt. Pleasant, the Chargers came out on top of all of the varsity teams: Bullock Creek, Houghton Lake, Midland, Bay City Western, Saginaw Heritage, Meridian, and Vassar. Huge thanks to the pom team and everyone else who came out to support the teams! The Chargers compete next at the Meridian Invitational next Tuesday. Go Chargers!

1. Come one come all to a meeting of GRACE. We will be meeting today at 3:30 in room 369 to organize our bracelet sale for next week.

2. 3, 2, 1… GO! Start your engines FGLers, because this week FGL will be playing racing games! That’s right- you get to drive like a maniac in the comfort of Mr. Shahin’s room. We’ll be playing Mario Kart and any other school appropriate racing games you want to bring. So bring a friend to race and a game/gaming system, and come to FGL this Friday after 7th hour.

3. Attention seniors….here is an excellent scholarship opportunity for you!
The Midland Area Community Foundation scholarships are now available for you to apply for.  The application window is February 1st to March 2nd.  Apply online at www.midlandfoundation.org.

4. Hey French Clubbers! Do you love tantalizing your taste buds with delicious French food? Do you have a favorite French dish? Start brainstorming and bring in any recipes that you’d like to cook for our upcoming food night! Today after 7th hour we’ll try and finalize plans for our delicious cooking night! See you all there!

8. Congratulations to the DHS debate team who had a great ending to the season this past weekend.  Congratulations to the whole team for an outstanding season.  Our final practice will be today from 7 to 10 p.m.

Attention Ren Fair performers.  We will be having a MANDATORY meeting to discuss performance and rehearsal order and requirements today from 3:30 to 4:30 in the theatre.   Each Act,  INCLUDING School groups, must send ONE representative to this meeting.  If you have questions contact Mrs. Bushey.

11. The boys’ varsity basketball team defeated Bay City John Glenn last night by a score of 66 to 60.  The Chargers host Bay City Central next Tuesday.

12. Last night, the Dow High junior varsity boys basketball team got back on the winning track by defeating Bay City John Glenn 58-48.  Dow is now 9-5 and plays at home Tuesday night against Bay City Central.  Come on out and support your fellow Chargers.

4. This past Friday, the Junior Varsity boys’ basketball team put forth a great team effort to defeat Saginaw Heritage 52-29.

5. Last night the J.V. basketball team couldn’t overcome a tough third quarter and suffered a hard fought defeat to Bay City Western 51-46.  With the loss the Chargers are 8-5 and look to get back on track tonight at Bay City John Glenn.

6. The boys’ varsity basketball team played an outstanding game but came up short losing to Bay City Western by a score of 58 to 56 last night.  The team travels to Bay City John Glenn for a game tonight.

12. The varsity competitive cheer team competed at the Northville Invitational on Saturday. Among very strong competition, the team placed 7th of 14. Livonia Stevenson won with 759.7240 points. Dow scored a season high 708.1788 points. Dow also posted season high scores for rounds 2 and 3. Great job, ladies! The varsity record currently stands at 18 and 7. Dow JV and varsity cheer teams compete next this Thursday at the Dow Classic beginning at 6pm. Come on out and watch the Dow Chargers take on Midland, Mt. Pleasant, Bay City Central, and Saginaw Heritage! Go Chargers!

14. The boys’ varsity basketball team defeated Saginaw Heritage last Friday by a score of 57 to 50.  Brandon Bowser led the Chargers with 13 points and 9 rebounds.  The Chargers travel to Bay City Western for a game on Tuesday.

15. Congratulations to Dow High Varsity and JV Pom teams who competed in the Mid-American Pompon Regional competition on Saturday.  BOTH teams received scores in the highest performance bracket, advancing them to the Class A/Division I STATE Championship.
Way to go ladies!

16. The Charger hockey team played twice this weekend and came away with 2 victories.
On Friday, we defeated the Kalamazoo Blades by a score of 9-2.
On Saturday, we defeated the Kalamazoo Eagles; 5-3.  The Chargers’ next home game is this Wednesday against Mt. Pleasant.

1. Attention Hairspray Leads – There will be no lead practice today!  Enjoy your afternoon off.

2. The Robotics Team is looking for new members!  Do you need to boost that college resume?  Looking for college scholarships?  Want a leg-up on other college students???  If you have any interest in Engineering, Business, Graphic Design… or just want to join a fun club, come learn about the Robotics Team.  No experience is necessary and all are welcome!  We plan to make it to States and Worlds this year and we want your help to get there.  The team is in the middle of its build season, but it’s never too late to join.  There is a very short informational meeting today after 6th hour in Mr. Murray’s room (room 133).  See Mr. Murray if you are interested and cannot make the meeting.

3. Seniors – Today is senior picture day. You will be released at 2:00 to go to the gold gym. Thanks and see you then, the yearbook staff.

4. Model United Nations students!  Hope College country assignments are in.  There is a mandatory (meaning “not optional”) meeting today after both sixth and seventh hours in Mr. Shahin’s room to go over the next steps.  Miss it at your own peril.  Model U.N., Friday afternoon, Room 330.

6. Hey Chargers, looking for a charitable, cheap, and cherish-worthy evening of chewable charity cuisine? Then come on down to the Charger Charity dinner to chow down on some cheesy pizza, and you’ll be cheery to know that you’re chopping the chagrin of the poor in half. At a ticket price of $5, admission is but mere change. So chase the crowd to the Charger Charity dinner. You’ll be cheerful and charmed that you did. (Buy your tickets at lunch or from a cheery Student Union member. Dinner ticket also gets you into the boys’ basketball game or swim meet that night for free.)

7. Do you like card games on motorcycles? Well, we don’t have any motorcycles, but we do have card games and board games! That’s right, at FGL this week we’ll be playing all the classic board games from your childhood and will have awesome card games going. So bring your favorite Pokemon decks, Yu-Gi-Oh cards, Chutes and Ladders, or anything else you want! Just bring something and come to Mr. Shahin’s room after 7th hour this Friday.

1. The Robotics Team is looking for new members!  Do you need to boost that college resume?  Looking for college scholarships?  Want a leg-up on other college students???  If you have any interest in Engineering, Business, Graphic Design… or just want to join a fun club, come learn about the Robotics Team.  No experience is necessary and all are welcome!  We plan to make it to States and Worlds this year and we want your help to get there.  The team is in the middle of its build season, but it’s never too late to join.  There is a very short informational meeting Friday after 6th hour in Mr. Murray’s room (room 133).  See Mr. Murray if you are interested and cannot make the meeting.

2. Hey French Clubbers! It’s been a while since our last meeting, so this is a friendly reminder that we’re meeting today, Thursday the 26th, in Mrs. St. Louis’s room to go over our cooking night plans! Bring any ideas for recipes that you want to cook, and we’ll finalize times, and who needs to bring what. I’ll see you all there after 7th hour! :)

3. The Charger hockey team lost a tough one in overtime last night to Saginaw Heritage, 3-2.  The Chargers next home game is this Wednesday at 7:15 versus Mt. Pleasant.

4. SADD SAVE members please meet in the OA LOUNGE today at 2: 30 to discuss Lunch Bunch sign up.

5. Seniors – Friday, January 27th will be the senior picture. You will be released at 2:00 to go to the gold gym. Thanks and see you then, the yearbook staff.

6. Model United Nations students!  Hope College country assignments are in.  There is a mandatory (meaning “not optional”) meeting on Friday after both sixth and seventh hours in Mr. Shahin’s room to go over the next steps.  Miss it at your own peril.  Model U.N., Friday afternoon, Room 330.

7. Attention sophomores and juniors: are you interested in “Getting the Edge” on your future? The Bay-Arenac ISD Career Center offers programs in which you can earn high school credit, college credits, and professional certifications. If you would like to visit Bay-Arenac on Friday, February 3, please contact Mrs. Helling by Monday, January 30.

8. All girls interested in playing tennis this spring; there will be a short meeting today after 6th hour in room 135.

9. Josten’s representative Mike Ball will be here today to pick up graduation orders. He will be here during both lunch hours in the front hall.  This will be the last day to pick up orders, after Thursday it will be your responsibility to mail your order to Josten’s.

10. There is a National Art Honors Society Painting Party today in room 358 from 3:30-6:30 to work on the Music Department Mural. Students should bring food and a drink to share.

11. Hey Chargers, looking for a charitable, cheap, and cherish-worthy evening of chewable charity cuisine? Then come on down to the Charger Charity dinner to chow down on some cheesy pizza, and you’ll be cheery to know that you’re chopping the chagrin of the poor in half. At a ticket price of $5, admission is but mere change. So chase the crowd to the Charger Charity dinner this Friday. You’ll be cheerful and charmed that you did. (Buy your tickets at lunch or from a cheery Student Union member. Dinner ticket also gets you into the boys’ basketball game or swim meet that night for free.)

12. Come one, Come all. GRACE meeting on today at 3:30 in room 369. We will be making the bracelets for Uganda.

13. Do you like card games on motorcycles? Well, we don’t have any motorcycles, but we do have card games and board games! That’s right, at FGL this week we’ll be playing all the classic board games from your childhood and will have awesome card games going. So bring your favorite Pokemon decks, Yu-Gi-Oh cards, Chutes and Ladders, or anything else you want! Just bring something and come to Mr. Shahin’s room after 7th hour this Friday.

14. Attention senior siblings!
If you want to be on the sibling page in the yearbook, photos will be taken on Thursday, February 2nd after 6th and 7th hour in the Cafeteria. This will be your only opportunity to have your pictures taken for this page so bring your brothers and sisters and we’ll see you there.
