Mrs. Kastl is an accomplished professional who has competently served a variety of roles during her professional career. She taught first grade through high school in such varied districts as Bay City, Beaverton, and Gladwin. She was hired by the Midland Public Schools in August of 1986 as a teacher of learning disabilities at Midland High School. After six years at MHS, she was a fifth and sixth grade teacher at Longview Elementary until June of 1994 when she was appointed as an assistant principal at Northeast Intermediate School. In the fall of 1997 she assumed the responsibilities as principal of Longview Elementary and since that time she continued to provide able leadership by working with staff to improve student achievement through a comprehensive and challenging school improvement plan. She has also served over the past year as the administrator in charge of the Franklin Center.
Mrs. Kastl earned her bachelor's degree and teaching certificate at Central Michigan University. She majored in special education with a focus in teaching students with emotional impairments. She also earned a minor in psychology. Mrs. Kastl was awarded a master's degree in special education / learning disabilities at CMU and has many credits through Saginaw Valley State University in Educational Administration.
An advocate for at-risk students and high achievers alike, Mrs. Kastl has a demonstrated record of enlisting and motivating teachers and administrators to work as a team with a common vision for the success of all students. Her experience at elementary, middle school, and high school gives her a broad vision of the developmental needs of students and the transition issues they face as they progress through the grade levels.
